Dawdle

Alandra is an interior environments student going into her fourth year of the Environmental Design Program. Through her design education, she hopes to learn how to design spaces that can enhance quality of life and user experiences.

Dawdle is a public library located at 22 Granite Way.  Taking inspiration from Mary Oliver’s ideas of poems creating journeys and that the pace of a poem can inform a reader’s enjoyment, the library’s main concept focuses on wandering.  By wandering, users will be able to create their own unique journey by choosing from the multiple path options presented in the library.  The library also brings part of its landscape, Mostyn Park, into its interior and incorporates nature into its design.

A.M. Well Library (Art and Mental Wellness Library)

Alandra is an interior environments student going into her fourth year of the Environmental Design Program. Through her design education, she hopes to learn how to design spaces that can enhance quality of life and user experiences.

A.M. Well Library will be a specialized library that is open to the public. It will be an art and mental wellness hub that offers creative and psychology-related collections that are mostly in relation to mental health awareness. The concept of the library will explore Mary Oliver’s idea of personification, which will aim to create a welcoming and comforting atmosphere like a consoling friend. It uses organic forms and physical comforting gestures such as an embrace as spatial qualities that cater to visitors’ state of mind.

Salutations

Lena Le is a passionate Interior Environments student finishing her 3rd year of Environmental Design. Through her designs, she strives to create spaces that improve the client’s and community’s experience by meeting their design needs.

The concept of the library will be centred on “Turning the Line” concept from Mary Oliver’s The Poetry Handbook. Taking characteristics from this concept, the design will be engaging, entrancing, and invoke curiosity through pauses. The pause helps sequential events be more enjoyable and will follow an easy pace that aid in the curiosity of the visitor and keeps them interested without overwhelming them. Every turn of the line will have a special feature where visitors can take a moment to pause before continuing. The library welcomes you into a mystical getaway that leaves you entranced and urges you to explore.

Meow Library

Comes from China, love Interior Design, and this is my third year in the Faculty of Architecture, same as the time I became a coffee lover.

The idea was to turn the 22 Granite two-story building into a cat theme library. Due to its proximity to the city downtown, this library aims to provide a place for cat lovers to decompress and relax after work. On the first floor is a cat cafe. People can come in to have a coffee while watching cats playing. In addition, cat kennels are available to support foster domestic cats for people who are temporarily unable to take care. The second floor serves as a public library with different seating styles. The most special seat is the arc bench surrounding the opening, where you can look down at the cat lounge from the glass cat head.
