At the BIOM_Lab we explore biomaterials for optimized building performance being Bacterial Cellulose one of these materials. On this project we are collaborating with the Churchill Northern Studies Center (CNSC) to gather data to understand how fast and to what extent bacterial cellulose degrades when exposed to the sub-Arctic climate of Churchill. We are running the same experiment in Winnipeg at the Sustainability in Action Facility (SiAF) and we’ll be able to compare degradation rate in both locations and have a better understanding of bacterial cellulose’s potential use in outdoor conditions.
